About me
My name is Marina Popova. I am a native speaker of Russian with a degree in Journalism
as well as experience of translating and extensive journalistic writing
on various topics.
100% HUMAN
I have lived in the UK since 2003 and have an in-depth knowledge of both Russian and English languages and cultures. Although I use translation software sometimes, all my translations are 100% human which means they are guaranteed to be terminologically precise and stylistically appropriate. I also pay great attention to grammar, spelling and punctuation, using skills which I acquired while working as a journalist in Russia.
LINGUISTIC PRECISION
As a journalist, I was aware that all my texts would be placed under public scrutiny and I had to ensure that my texts were of the highest linguistic quality as not doing so would have damaged the credibility not only of myself as a professional but of the newspaper as a whole. My degree in Journalism included linguistic training to an exceptionally high standard, and this is why I am able to produce texts in Russian which are accurate and easy to read.
APPROPRIATE STYLE
My experience as a journalist has equipped me with the ability to compose texts with varying purposes and audiences in mind. As a translator I am able to quickly analyse the purpose, style and intended audience of the original text as a whole and incorporate these elements into my translation, true to the spirit of the original.
DETAILED RESEARCH
My research skills as a journalist are very relevant to my work as a translator. I always make sure that proper names and specialised terms are chosen precisely and spelt correctly, which is a frequent problem when translating into a different script (Cyrillic in my case). The research element of a translator's work is often what distinguishes a good translation from a bad one. I am always careful to make sure I have thoroughly researched a specialised topic in order to understand it before I complete my translation. I create my own glossaries for later use.
So why choose me as your contractor? Here are the 10 reasons:
